A Covenant Way of Life in Christ

The Emmaus Covenant Community is a private association of the lay faithful rooted in Catholic Charismatic spirituality and dedicated to living the Gospel in a shared, intentional way of life.

Born from the desire to sustain disciples beyond formation, the community exists to deepen faith, nurture authentic Christian fellowship, and contribute to the renewal of the Church through evangelization.

our Beginings

After the first Discipleship Training School in 1991, it became clear that sending graduates back home individually would not sustain the fire of mission. A new vision emerged: forming communities as spiritual homes to support communal ministry.

With approval from Church leadership, the first Emmaus Communities were established in:

From Discipleship to Community (1991–1994)

Growth & Transition (1995–2016)

Soon after, community life was formally established at Emmaus Centre Katikamu. In 1994, members made their first commitments, and a shared life of prayer, mission, and common support began.

Over the years, the community expanded across Uganda and internationally, giving birth to communities in:Uganda, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Kenya, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. As the Centre grew, community life evolved through seasons of:

Community life is characterized by:

why convent Community

Because faith deepens in communion ,mission flourishes in belonging, and disciples need spiritual family.

In 2016, during the Silver Jubilee celebration, the statutes of the Emmaus Covenant Community were officially approved by the Local Ordinary of Kasana-Luweero Diocese.

This marked a defining moment:
Community commitment shifted from commitment to ministry alone — to commitment to a way of life

Governance, Property & Stewardship

Emmaus Centre Katikamu operates with clear structures that safeguard both its mission and its integrity. The Institute of Discipleship and Evangelisation is governed by a Board of Governors on behalf of the Uganda Episcopal Conference, ensuring policy oversight, accountability, and strategic direction.

The Emmaus Covenant Community, as a private association of the lay faithful, is under the pastoral care of the Local Ordinary of Kasana-Luweero Diocese and governed by the Emmaus Council, which safeguards the spirituality, values, and way of life of the community. All property of Emmaus Centre Katikamu is entrusted to the Registered Trustees of the Uganda Episcopal Conference and dedicated exclusively to the empowerment of the laity and the ministry of evangelization. Through responsible stewardship, transparency, and accountability, we ensure that every resource — land, buildings, finances, and human talent — serves the mission of Christ and the renewal of His Church.

Meet our Families

At the heart of the Emmaus Covenant Community are families who have chosen to live their vocation intentionally — rooted in prayer, love, and shared mission. Our families are not perfect; they are pilgrims walking together in faith. They support one another through joys and challenges, raise their children in Christian values, and open their homes in hospitality and service.

Here, marriage is honored as a sacred covenant, children are embraced as gifts, and daily life becomes a place of evangelization. Each family contributes uniquely to the life of the community — through professional work, ministry, mentorship, and witness.Together, we grow, serve, celebrate, and journey toward holiness.

Where faith is lived at home.

help is our main goal!

From humble beginnings in 1991, Emmaus has grown into a family that has touched lives across Uganda and beyond — forming disciples, strengthening families, supporting parishes, and serving communities through education, health, and evangelization. But the mission continues.
