Were not our hearts burning within us while He spoke to us on the way and opened the Scriptures to us?”
— Luke 24:32
The story of Emmaus is not only a moment in Scripture—it is a living journey that continues in the hearts of believers today.
On the road to Emmaus, two disciples walked with heavy hearts. Their hopes were bruised, their understanding clouded, and their faith tested. Yet in the midst of their confusion, Christ Himself drew near. He walked with them, listened to them, opened the Scriptures to them, and finally revealed Himself in the breaking of the Bread. In that sacred encounter, their hearts began to burn.
Hearts That Burn Through Encounter
At Emmaus Centre Katikamu, we believe that faith is rekindled through encounter. When Christ is welcomed—in prayer, in the Word, and in the Eucharist—something within us awakens. Hearts that were weary begin to burn again with hope, purpose, and love. This burning is not emotional excitement alone; it is the quiet, steady fire of God’s presence transforming the inner life.
Hearts Formed on the Journey
Burning hearts are formed, not rushed. Like the disciples, we learn as we walk. Through formation programmes, retreats, catechesis, and community life, Emmaus Centre becomes a place where Christ patiently opens our understanding. Faith deepens, character is shaped, and disciples are formed—not just to know Christ, but to live like Him.
Hearts That Burn in Service
A heart that truly burns for Christ cannot remain still. It moves outward in love. At Emmaus, burning hearts express themselves through service—educating the young, caring for the sick, supporting families, and reaching the vulnerable. Service becomes prayer in action, a visible sign of the Gospel lived daily.
Hearts Sent on Mission
The Emmaus story does not end at the table. The disciples rose at once and returned to Jerusalem. Burning hearts are always sent. They carry the Good News into homes, schools, workplaces, and communities. Emmaus Centre exists to send forth missionary disciples whose lives witness to the transforming power of Christ.
A Living Emmaus Today
Emmaus Centre Katikamu is a place where hearts still burn—through prayer, formation, service, and mission. It is a community that walks together, listens together, breaks bread together, and is sent together.
May our hearts never grow cold.
May we continue to walk with Christ.
And may the fire of the Gospel burn within us—lighting the way for others.
